I've done the math. To get a level one bitcoin rig from where I am now by buying off of the flea market it would cost ₽10.3 million and would take one month to pay off.
DOJ investigating whether Tether was used to prop up Bitcoin
U.S. case part of broader review of possible coin manipulation
As Bitcoin plunges, the U.S. Justice Department is investigating whether last year’s epic rally was fueled in part by manipulation, with traders driving it up with Tether -- a popular but controversial digital token. While federal prosecutors opened a broad criminal probe into cryptocurrencies months ago, they’ve recently homed in on suspicions that a tangled web involving Bitcoin, Tether and crypto exchange Bitfinex might have been used to illegally move prices, said three people familiar with the matter.
Using a Bitcoin Rig for hash cracking? JtR /Hashcat /pdfcrack
What sort of specifications would be needed to get some decent results? Would primarily need to be a brute force attack method as it would be for PDF password as well as anything else that pops up. I’m getting some decent results with CAD computer with up to ~6 characters long including lower and upper case and numbers, but further than that starts taking days, and I don’t know the length of the passwords
Bloomberg: Bitcoin-Rigging Criminal Probe Focused on Tie to Tether - DOJ investigating whether Tether was used to prop up Bitcoin
Worth noting that Brock Pierce is involved with Tether and he is also involved with the Clinton Foundation. Bloomberg is reporting that:

Let's say that eth becomes the dominant crypto in a few years, can all these mining farms switch from one coin to another without changing hardware? Thanks in advance.
I am sitting in my office and running a little space heater that puts out 1500 watts of heat. If I understand the rules correctly, it would be just as efficient from a electrical/heat standpoint to have a bitcoin rig burning 1500 watts. But you also get the benefit of the mining. People often point out that you don't even break even on electricity when running a bitcoin rig, but what if you're going to be using that electricity anyway for heat? Would it make sense to put a rig in my office and use the electricity for both heat and mining?
what else could you do with a bitcoin mining rig? now that they aren't realy profitable say I could get a Antminer U2 or a Antminer S3 for cheep. Could I use the computing power for simulations like weather and nuke strikes, or encryption breaking? With the some miners being usb could i make it to give my laptop or computer extra speed, like using a ReadyBoost?
Critical to all mining operations is the “break even” factor, which the mining estimator seeks to determine. This is the value of cryptocurrency that must be produced for the cost of the rig to be paid for. For example, one featured Bitcoin mining rig costs USD $1,767 to build and operate and generates $4.56 in profit per day at current prices. The Shark Mini is a compact GPU mining rig that is known to be customizable and easy to use. ~2500: 120MH/S: 400W-600W / 5A: 3: 10+ 2.5: ... During the big bitcoin gold rush of late 2017, bitcoin and altcoin miners were making bank and mining hardware providers were barely able to keep up with demand. Bitcoin mining is a booming industry, but the Bitcoin price increasing can help make up some of these losses. The Bitcoin price is increasing at an average of 0.3403% per day over the past year. Try messing with the calculator using different prices. Ethash Still Accessible to Home-Based Mining Rigs. In 2020, the Ethash algorithm is still amenable to home-based mining, and it is possible to build a rig and compete for block rewards.. An Ethereum mining rig is best built using GPU. Currently, there are specialized rigs with about 200 million hashes per second. These next 20 mining rigs are totally insane! Oh and if your interested we did a review on the best bitcoin mining software so you can be sure you get the most Hash per $ spent 🙂 1. 8 Core FPGA Bitcoin Miner. This rig is so complex it even looks like a model of a small city. And in the digital currency town every light is green! Source
